FAT 2 FIT (Detailed Product Literature)

Uncoupling proteins are mitochondrial carrier proteins which are able to dissipate the proton gradient of the inner mitochondrial membrane. This uncoupling process reduces the amount of ATP generated through an oxidation of fuels. The hypothesis that uncoupling proteins (UCPs) are candidate genes for human obesity or Type II (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus is based on the finding that a chemical uncoupling of the mitochondrial membrane reduces body adiposity, and that lower metabolic rates predict weight gain.

A reasonable interpretation of these data suggests that as subjects age and the effectiveness of thermogenic mechanisms wanes, obesity might develop as a consequence of increased caloric intake no longer effectively buffered by the increased SNS activity.

leptin and insulin may, therefore, be considered as compensatory mechanisms recruited to restore energy balance, with the SNS as one of the effector arms. Viewed in this way, obesity-related hypertension is inextricably linked to the metabolic economy of the obese.

The adipocyte, which is the cellular basis for obesity, is being found to be an increasingly complex and metabolically active cell. Currently, the adipocyte is being perceived more frequently as an endocrine gland with several peptides and metabolites that may have relevance to the control of body weight, and these currently are being studied intensively. Among the products of the adipocyte involved in the complex intermediary metabolism are the cytokines, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-6, lipotransin, adipocyte lipid-binding protein, acyl stimulation protein, prostaglandins, adipsin, perilipins, lactate, adiponectin, monobutyrin, and phospholipid transfer protein.

Among the critical enzymes involved in adipocyte metabolism are endothelial lipoprotein lipase (involved in lipid storage), hormone-sensitive lipase (involved in lipid elaboration and release from adipocyte depots), acylcoenzyme A (acyl-CoA) synthetases (involved in fatty acid synthesis), and a cascade of enzymes (involved in beta oxidation and fatty acid metabolism). The ongoing flurry of investigation into the intricacies of adipocyte metabolism in the last 5 years has not only improved our understanding of the pathogenesis of obesity but also has offered multiple potential targets for therapy.

Pathophysiology: The pathogenesis of obesity is far more complex than the simple paradigm of an imbalance between energy intake and energy output. Although this concept allows easy conceptualization of the various mechanisms involved in the development of obesity, obesity obviously is far more than the mere result of excess eating and/or too little exercise. However, the prevalence of inactivity in developed countries is significant and relevant.

Balsamodendron mukul
It contains Oleo gum resin. It acts as astringent as well as antiseptic on the mucus membrane. It causes an increase of leucocytes in the blood and thus stimulates phagocytosis.

Achyranthus aspera
Again the action of astringent , diuretic and purgative.

Terminalia chebula
Astringent principle like tannin and gallic acid.

Picrorrhiza kurrooa
Root contains a glucoside called picrorrhizin which is a bitter astringent with an acid reaction.

Tinospora cordifolia
Berberine, bitter substance present in the fruit causes lowering hepatic glucose –6phosphatase and serum acid phosphatase , alkaline phosphates , and lactate dehydrogenase. and thus it has an effect of hypoglycemic and hypo lipidaemic effect . It normalizes cisplatin induced intestinal hypermotility. Guduchi offered protection against stress induced gastric mucosal damage.

Embelia ribes
Stimulant laxative and diuretic having hot potency.

Ricinus cummunis
The glycerides of ricinolic acid are mainly responsible for the purgative effect.

Tephrosia purpura
Tonic and laxative contains Brown resin and chlorophyll.

All the ingredients if considered together are with resins having astringent action on the mucosal membrane. Most of them are having hot potency so as to correct digestion metabolism. Synergic effectof the formulation helps to work on adipocytes. Breaks the cycle of peptides and metabolites.

Active ingredients like Acharanthys, ricinnis and berberine mostly acts to break the fatty acid synthesis.
Bitter priciples present in the formulations are liver stimulant as well as gastrointestinal stimulant.
Laxative and diuretic herbs does not allow any fluid retention .
Thus the total formulation gives toning to muscle by stimulating normal functioning of systems.

2. Lean Care - Weight Control Formula

LeanCare is a unique complex herbal formula that regulates the metabolism of fats and has shown excellent results in cases of obesity, thereby protecting overweight people against possible consequences of excess lipids. The concept of obesity as a disorder of the lipid metabolism is described in Ayurveda, and number of formulas have been used safely for centuries. The metabolic action of Guggulu and HCA (hydroxycitric acid from Garcinia Cambogia) has been well documented.

It has been well established that the regulation of the sugar content in the blood stream plays a role in supporting a normal lipid metabolism. The presence of Gymnema makes LeanCare the natural solution when weight control difficulties are linked to poor regulation of the glucose metabolism. When a person's weight exceeds 20% of the standard, then the person is categorized as obese or overweight. Garcinia (Latin name: Garcinia Cambogia )
Recent studies have shown that fruits, like Garcinia, contain a biologically active compound which is known to inhibit the synthesis of lipids and fatty acids and lowers the formation of LDL and triglycerides. Additionally, appetite is also suppressed by promoting synthesis of glycogen, this way the brain gets signals of fullness and satisfaction sooner. Garcinia also contains significant amounts of Vitamin C and has been used as a heart tonic.

Guggul (Latin name: Commiphora Mukul )
Guggul is a resin known to increase white blood cell counts and possess strong disinfecting properties. Guggul has long been known to normalize lipid metabolism, lower cholesterol and triglycerides, while maintaining or improving the HDL to LDL ratio. It may have been one of the very first "broad spectrum drugs" with a wide therapeutic range. A broad mode of action makes this plant very helpful not only in protecting against the common cold, but also in various skin, dental and ophthalmic infections.

Rough Chaff Tree (Latin name: Achyranthes aspera )
Rough Chaff Tree helps in removing toxins and fat from the body. It has been traditionally used to address a broad range of conditions, including regulation of urine output. Various triterpenoid saponins have been identified and are linked to its effectiveness as a cardiac stimulant and diuretic.

Gymnema (Latin name: Gymnema Sylvestre )
Gymnema or Gurmara Gymnema, whose Hindi name literally means 'sugar destroyer', has been shown in vitro to have a glycolytic action and the ability to reduce the strength of a glucose solution. It has been used in Ayurveda for several centuries to regulate sugar metabolism. Gymnema increases insulin production, possibly by repairing or regenerating pancreas cells, the site of insulin production. It also abolishes the taste of sugar, which effectively suppresses and neutralizes the craving for sweets.

Indian Long Pepper/Pippali (Latin name: Piper Longum )
Indian Long Pepper, or Pippali is a powerful stimulant for both the digestive and the respiratory systems and has been shown to have a rejuvenating effect on the lungs. It is very useful herb as it accelerates metabolism and improves digestion. Pippali plays an important role in aiding the thermogenic response, i.e. the release of metabolic heat energy. This effect is the result of increased thyroid hormone level in the body and makes Pippali a typical Ayurvedic complementary component whose benefit is to increase the bioavailability and enhance absorption of the other active ingredients.

Bitter Melon (Latin name: Momordica Charantia )
Bitter Melon, also known as Bitter Gourd, has been traditionally used to regulate blood sugar levels within the normal limits as it promotes utilization of Glucose. It contains Gurmarin, a polypeptide considered to be similar to bovine insulin, which has been shown in experimental studies to achieve a positive sugar regulating effect by suppressing the neural response to sweet taste stimuli. Bitter Melon is a natural source of Vitamin C and has also been reported to show hypocholesteroemic activity.

SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION

LeanCare has been scientifically validated by many clinical studies. Its formula has been subjected to the modern scrutiny of clinical testing to prove its benefits in gently addressing your health concerns, and its quality is controlled by the most sophisticated chromatographic "fingerprinting" techniques.

Please do NOT use unproven, unbranded herbal products, which can pose serious risks to your health. Because the FDA does not fully regulate the manufacturing and sale of herbal products, it is important that you, the consumer, thoroughly research the quality and manufacturing practices of the products you plan to take.

How do our products compare?
As an informed consumer, it is important that you look for products that have been researched clinically and standardized to guarantee bioequivalence. Bioequivalence refers to ensuring that the product on the market is equivalent to the one on which clinical trials were successfully conducted. Himalaya Herbal Healthcare uses chromatographic fingerprinting, one of the most sophisticated standardization techniques, to ensure consistent quality and performance. Most companies that manufacture herbal medicines are neither equipped nor care to perform such expensive fingerprinting. Himalaya Herbal Healthcare has been a global leader in scientifically validated herbal medicine since 1930 and its products are marketed in more than 45 countries and endorsed by over 200,000 healthcare professionals worldwide.

3. Guggul Gugulipid Herb

Guggul , also known as Commiphora Mukul and Guggulipid , is a very effective herbal medicine for controlling obesity and cholesterol. It is a well-established fat burning agent all over the world and is currently becoming very popular in America, Japan, Europe and many other western nations. Guggul is a resin known to increase white blood cell counts and possess strong disinfecting properties. It has long been known to lower cholesterol and triglycerides, while maintain or improve the HDL to LDL ratio. It is one of the very first "broad spectrum drugs" with a wide therapeutic range. A broad mode of action makes this herb very helpful even in protecting against ailments such as common cold, and various skin, dental and ophthalmic infections.

One of the most famous herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, Guggul possesses strong purifying and rejuvenating powers. People today most commonly use it to benefit from Guggul's lipid regulating and immunomodulating properties. It has been shown that Guggul can lower blood cholesterol by 14-27% and can lower triglycerides by 22-30%. The effects that Himalaya's Guggul has on the blood cholesterol levels is comparable to prescription medications but, being a natural plant extract, it is a far superior and much safer product. Guggul works on the liver by increasing the metabolism (or break down) of the bad cholesterol known as LDL Cholesterol. After taking the product for 4 to 12 weeks, total cholesterol levels can drop, triglyceride levels can drop and an increase in HDL (the good cholesterol) of approximately 16% can occur. Its benefits as a weight-loss and fat burning agent have been well researched and documented in several studies.

Are there any side effects to taking Guggul?
There are no known serious side effects to taking Guggul. It is non-toxic and well tolerated. However, prolonged use may be associated with mild stomach upset. It may stimulate the thyroid and uterus, so it is best to avoid in cases of hyperthyroidism and pregnancy.

Can Guggul be taken along with other pharmaceutical medication?
It is not advisable to combine Guggul with cholesterol-lowering pharmaceutical medication, although the interaction with such drugs has not been studied in detail.

What kind of action does Guggul have on the body?
Guggul has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat obesity, lipid disorders, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is useful in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, while reducing existing plaque in arteries. In terms of obesity, Guggul increases body's metabolic rate, improves thyroid function, increases fat-burning activity of the body, and increases thermogenesis or heat production. Guggul helps to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. It has been shown to reduce total cholesterol up to 30% in 3 months. Guggul's cholesterol regulating properties are especially important in reducing LDL by 35% and increasing HDL by 20% in 12 weeks. Guggul decreases platelet stickiness and reduces risk of heart disease and stroke.

What are the benefits of taking Guggul?
- Guggul increased HDL cholesterol, which is needed by the body and lowers LDL cholesterol.
- It lowers triglyceride levels.
- It relaxes the muscles which helps relieve menstrual pain.
- It acts as a blood detoxifier, which breaks up stagnation in the body.
- It is a heart tonic that strengthens the heart.

How long do I have take Guggul before I see any results?
Herbal medicines provide progressive, long-term benefits. Certain classes of herbs work well in acute conditions to provide quick relief, however herbs like Guggul usually take 3-4 weeks before you can experience the full benefits of taking it. Individual results can vary, depending on the nature and seriousness of the condition for which Guggul is being consumed.

Have any studies been done on Guggul?
One 12-week study demonstrated that 1500 milligrams of Guggulipid had average reduction in serum cholesterol of nearly 22%, while triglycerides were reduced about 25% in people who took it regularly. Another study showed that Guggulipid works best for people who have high cholesterol reading of the type IIb (increased LDL, VLDL, and triglycerides) and type IV (increased VLDL and triglycerides). A third study involving 233 people with elevated cholesterol or triglycerides levels (or both) showed that Guggulipid worked better than the cholesterol-lowering drug Clofibrate. People taking guggulu had the added benefit of seeing some improvements in HDL, the “good cholesterol” - an effect that was not in evidence with the pharmaceutical.

Is Guggul a standardized herbal medicine?
Himalaya Healthcare Company has solved the riddle of ensuring consistency of performance for herbal remedies through full control of all stages of production from growing the herbs on their own farms to adhering to pharma Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and stringent quality controls. Every Himalaya Pure Herb, including Guggul, is fingerprinted using the most sophisticated chromatographic techniques to consistently maintain the highest quality.

What is the difference between the pure herb, Guggul, and herbal blends that contain Guggul as a primary ingredient?
Himalaya Pure Herbs is a line of clinically proven traditional herbs from The Himalaya Drug Company. The Himalaya Pure Herbs range delivers to you the best of a rich Indian pharmacopoeia in a convenient capsule form. Each Pure Herb capsule contains the goodness of the entire Guggul plant and all its attendant benefits. On the other hand, herbal blends, like HeartCare and GlucoCare, that contain Guggul as the primary ingredient fulfil essentially all of the functions that Guggul individually does, but include other herbs that address different aspects of cholesterol and glucose metabolism respectively. For most consumers, it is often a matter of choice when deciding between Pure Herbs and Herbal blends.

Which is more important when shopping for herbal medicines - safety, effectiveness, or bioequivalence?
We recognize that, for most consumers, the real issue is less one of safety and effectiveness of herbal remedies in general and more one of the quality of the specified product. The real issue for the consumer is the question of bioequivalence: is the product in front of me going to be bioequivalent to the one I have been reading about and deliver the results I expect?

Why buy Himalaya Guggul when there are countless other brands available on the market?
It is important that you, as a consumer, look for products that have not only been researched clinically but are also “fingerprinted” to guarantee, “The science is in the pill”. Himalaya, in fact, pioneered “fingerprinting” as the way to achieve consistency of performance of herbal remedies. Fingerprinting refers to perfectly matching the entire phytoconstituent profile of the plant between the product on the market and the reference or standard on which the science has been generated. In other words, “fingerprinting” the entire make-up of the herbal product is the only way to verify bioequivalence. Most companies that manufacture herbal medicines are not equipped nor care to perform such fingerprinting. Consequently for the consumer, most products on the market cannot truly make the claims they make because the bioequivalence of their herbal products has not been conclusively established through a match of their phytoconstituent profiles with the reference.

SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION
Guggul has been scientifically validated by many clinical studies. Its formula has been subjected to the modern scrutiny of clinical testing to prove its benefits in gently addressing your health concerns, and its quality is controlled by the most sophisticated chromatographic "fingerprinting" techniques.
